You could be the real thing
Music's like a vitamin
But if you ain't smiling
You've gotta change your tune
You could be an Eater
Living with a Feeder
Fed up getting treated
Like a dinosaur display
I have laid my heart bare
Bled til there was nothing there
Nobody really cares
I'd rather sing about food
Gotta run our own race
Learn to share the airspace
On a long enough time span we'll all disappear without a trace
And if it's not fun
You're not doing it right
The First World ain't always easy
Post-modern, post-gender, post-irony
But I know what the hell it is I wanna be:
Healthy
Happy
That's all.
Cos if it's not fun
You're not doing it right.

Half Greek Blues
03:46
|
|||
Well I wish I was Half-Greek like you
And I wish I was six foot two
And I love my Grandma’s Irish stew
And love my Grandpa’s roast
I love corned beef and mixed grill but what I really love the most
Is those tasty little pastries so soft you don’t need to chew
I wish I was, I wish I was Half-Greek like you
Well I wish I had some ethnic heritage
More than just a mongrel, some exotic lineage
Because meat pies come from Ancient Greece
And beer comes from Egypt
And mateship was a concept way back at The Iliad
We’re force-fed an identity
Till we start to think it’s true
And I wonder what a Half-Greek thinks, Half-Greek like you.
Loukoumathes. Bougatsa. Finikia. Spanakopita
Kourabiethes. Kataifi. Baklava
Galaktoboureko. Koulourakia.
I’m gonna ask your Mama
To come and start a life somewhere new
I’ll pretend that I’m her Half-Greek son, Half-Greek, like you.

Gravity
03:16
|
|||
Gravity is a harsh mistress
And she's causing me some distress
Cos I'm falling
Down in love with you
Thought I'd tasted it before
Maybe twice, maybe more
But I swore myself off that stuff like a drug
But that piercing laugh
Those hands that cool my hot head
With just one touch
Those nerves of steel
Those lashes they could peel the toughest skin
With one bat
And I tip my hat
To anyone who takes the chance
For one more dance
When the band has stopped
And there's just tapping shoes on the floor
And gravity is a harsh mistress
And I'll do my best to Bless This Mess
And keep on walking
Up those stairs to you
To you.
The pavement sits with no free will
But even still
One corner's raised above the rest
With devilish possibility
Forged in fire
Paved by hard and dirty manly hands
It's like a magnet, pulling the toe of your high heel
You clip the tip
Stumble, turn and bite your lip
Look around for laughing eyes
But your bruised pride
Has given joy to someone tonight
Tonight
Tonight
They'll walk up those stairs
To someone who cares
And they'll talk about the girl who tripped
And they'll laugh and say...
Gravity is a harsh mistress
And she's causing me some distress
Cos I'm falling.

Still Waters
03:13
|
|||
Still waters, run deep
For starters, or for keeps?
What are we gonna fight about?
Sit down and let it out right now
This feels like something good is happening
Free from the chains
All that remains
Is to just let it flow
Let it flow
Let it go
What are we gonna fight about?
Sit down and let it out right now
This feels like something good is happening.

White's No.1 Tincture
03:25
|
|||
Doctor's got his bag full of medicine
Maybe some instruments too
Lawyer's got a bag full of papers
It's bad news, for me and for you
Teacher's got a bag full of chalk and pens
Builder's got a bag full of tools
And I've got a bag full of hope and dreams
Well...it ain't much but it's gonna have to do cos
It's a long walk, a long walk home
A long walk home without my donkey
A long walk, a long walk home
A long walk home without my donkey
If you're feeling kinda down about the sinkholes
Feeling kinda down about the war
Feeling kinda down about your lover
You don't have to worry no more
I went to the doctor he said
"Son it's time to choose.
You can chase either the women
The food, or the booze"
And I said "Doctor! Doctor!
There's only one thing for these blues:
Just pass a glass - sit yerself down
I got the best damn cure in town:
It's White's
Number One
Tincture."
Swedish bitters for your livers
Beef tendons for your knees
Ginger for most everything
A mighty lemony squeeze
Lavender, lemongrass and lime
Licorice and chamomile tea
If you're frisky add whisky
Spice it up and let it sit
Pretty lady pass the gravy
Shuffle up a little bit cos it's
White's
Number One
Tincture
It'll fix yer blisters
Cheer up yer grumpy sisters
It'll cure insanity
With perfect calamity
Ku Ding King Hell
You sing I yell for
White's
Number One
Tincture

Karamel Dreams
02:44
|
|||
Like a maiden Group One winner
But she don't have many races in her
She's a brood mare
In the greenest pasture around
I wanna walk down new paths
And see through new eyes
I wanna swim in your Karamel thighs.
Karamel sunset, karamel dreams
The sweetest thing I've ever seen
And if you listen close
You'll know what I mean
The mystery is in the space...between...the notes
Woke up glued together
Under a curtain of your Karamel hair
And in time, in time I could live here
In this Polaroid snapshot of a love affair
And it's Karamel sunset, Karamel dreams
The sweetest thing I've ever seen
And if you listen close
You'll know what I mean
The mystery is in the space...between...the notes

Well someone said "boy, why are you always singing
bout death and bout broken hearts?"
So I made a list about some things I love
And it wasn't hard to make a start:
Oh Nina, Curious Nina
And Lottie Le Roux
There aren't words beautiful enough to say
I love you
For all my days.
Well I love new socks and that new t-shirt smell
Love saving the best mouthful til last
I love spreading condiments thick as I can
Love thinking about the past
Well I love good words like "nodule" and "douche"
Love watching ducks land on the water
Love whisky, hot showers and sleeping in
After staying up later than I oughta
And Nina, Curious Nina
And Lottie Le Roux
There aren't words beautiful enough to say
I love you
For all my days.
Well I love big hugs and gorging on cheese
Love tennis, the Tigers and trinkets
Love hotel-made beds, so clean and so tight
Love mates who are more than just drinkers
And Nina, Curious Nina
And Lottie Le Roux
There aren't words beautiful enough to say
I love you
For all my days.
Well now my girls, my beautiful girls
I love you both more than all these things
Love watching you think, love watching you sleep
And dancing and laughing and singing
Oh Nina, Curious Nina
And Lottie Le Roux
There aren't words beautiful enough to say
I love you
How much I love you
And I'll love you
For all of my days.

Dutch Cream Potatoes
06:06
|
|||
I remember when a phone hung on the wall
A communication tool
And we used it when we needed to
Didn't think we could feed off its light.
And I remember reading Dutch People are tall
Tallest men in the world
Not a generalisation but statistical fact
Some things are just true.
Like how life got in the way, between me and you
I remember when you walked across the yard
It was hard to look away and it's harder to look away today
Cos it wasn't long ago we were on the same page
Well it felt like we were, but now it's harder to gauge
The Truth
Well here it goes:
I never wanted your light, just thought we'd burn brighter together.
I think a lot about patterns of behaviour
How factory settings restore when we're troubled and stressed
And I miss you like I miss smoking
I wish I was joking
And maybe old dogs can learn new tricks
Once they're washed and they're dried and you've picked off the ticks
But we're Rescue Dogs now and it's not always clear
What'll set something off, and you just disappeared (the first time)
What a change! What a change in one year
And for all the explanations what still isn't clear
Is how that flicker of hope can survive through the storms
And the floods and the droughts and almost be reborn
There are two things that still get me down, down on my knees
Your Dutch Cream Potatoes and your Denim Dungarees.
I don't know why but I don't see the world in black and white
Like, some things are just grey - maybe right for today
But things change, and small changes can be the best ones
Like riding a bike, it's the little adjustments in steering that keep you moving forwards
Those big sweeping turns are the ones that make you fall down.
And I'm positive but non-commital in most situations it helps me stay sane and not drown in expectation.
Sometimes the best of intentions can lead to the saddest outcomes
And I don't work hard but I laugh a lot and the thing about walks on the beach that I love
Is how storms will pass, when you're out in the open you can see the blue sky
If it's off in the distance at least you can see it
And wait just a minute you'll be walking right in it
So maybe when people feel isolated it's a matter of getting out into the open
To breathe in the sky, to stop asking why and start asking how, to make things better
For everyone, anyone, I'll never forget all the good things, the bad things, the in-betweens
And your Dutch Cream Potatoes
And your Denim Dungarees.

Songbird
01:48
|
|||
Sitting waiting for my Songbird
Just wanna hear that song
Sitting waiting for my Songbird
I'll wait here all night long.
And it goes:
Do do do do do doo doooo
Sitting Waiting for my Songbird
I pick up this rusty guitar
And I'll sing to you, my Songbird
No matter how far away you are
And it goes:
Do do do do do doo doooo
